03 November 2005

Phil Herron and his friend Dave started fishing at Linear back in 2004, but after four visits to St Johns and one to Hardwick without any success they started to doubt whether they would ever get a take let alone one of the big mirrors Linear is famous for. To their credit they kept coming back and finally in the summer of 2005 it all started to go right for them, sometimes all it takes is a bit of perseverance to get that confidence back and before you know it you can’t even remember those blanks days spent on the bank.

St Johns was the venue for their first success, with Phil taking his first two twenties from Linear back in July. With their confidence boosted they decided to move onto Oxlease for their next trip in August where yet again the Carp Gods smiled on them, producing P.B.’s for both Phil and Dave, both fish weighing exactly 25lb 08oz’s. Needless to say they were over the moon and looking forward to their next trip.

With October in full swing it was time for a visit back to Oxlease, what Phil didn’t realise was that by the end of the trip he would be travelling back to up to Liverpool with a new P.B. and Lake Record under his belt!! When the moment came tiger nuts proved to be the downfall of Phil’s 36lb lake record mirror, they were placed about 40 yards out and produced a screaming take on Phil’s rods. I would imagine the look on his face when the scales nudged round to 36 would have been a picture, so well done mate, you didn’t give up and were well rewarded. So, two trips on the bounce and two P.B.’s, what will his next outing bring, maybe one of those big scaly fella’s out of Hardwick??

Be Lucky,
Chris Blunt (Fishery Officer).
