**Linear Fisheries COVID-19 – Update**
1pm Sat 21st March 2020

*Fishery to Close*

This morning we have taken the decision to close the entire fishery from 4pm on Sunday 22nd of March – we will remain closed until further notice but would expect this to be at least one month, probably longer.

Following the government advice last night and our own view on the current situation, we do not now feel comfortable in encouraging anglers from all around the country to travel to our fishery. It’s time to do our bit and try and slow down the spread of COVID-19. We must all now do our bit to stop the spread………….

This is most definitely not a decision that we have taken lightly as it will have a significant financial effect on the fishery, but we feel it is the correct and proper thing to do! I’m sure you will all be disappointed by this decision and I’m sure some of you will think it is over the top, but it is the right thing to do.

This will applies to both the Guy Lakes and Dix Pit Syndicates as well as the day ticket lakes and the on-site shop. For those that have paid or are paying monthly to fish our syndicate waters, please bear with us, we will work out a way to either refund, credit or freeze payments and make sure it works for everyone. If you have a booking that is affected by our closer and have already paid, a full refund will be issued in due course.

For those currently fishing the site, our fishery staff will be asking you to leave the site and be off by 4pm tomorrow – please work with them to make sure you all leave in an orderly fashion. Please accept my apologies if you had planned to stop longer and for those that have traveled a long way to get here.

As I mentioned in a previous update – the lakes and the fish won’t be going anywhere and will be waiting for you in the months to come, but we now all need to do our bit to help stop the spread of this deadly virus.

Stay safe and we’ll see you all again soon.

**BYCAC Junior Championships**

As we announced last week, this year's event has unfortunately had to be cancelled. So just a quick message to say that everyone that paid via our online shop has now been refunded and we will next week, start issuing refunds for those that paid by cheque. Just to keep you all in the loop and let you know where we are with your refunds.

All the best - Chris Blunt

**Message to all Syndicate Members**

Thought we'd post this on our media pages but you will also be getting a letter through the post. Just wanted to make sure that everyone knows what is going on with your current and future memberships.

Dear Syndicate Member,

As most of you will now be aware, over the weekend of the 21st/22nd March we took the decision to close the on-site tackle shop along with all of our waters due to the current COVID-19 situation we are facing – This includes both the Guy Lakes and Dix Pit Syndicates. I’m sure all of you will be upset to miss what is arguably the best fishing period of the year, but it is something we all need to get behind to help slow or stop the spread of the is deadly virus.
As a fishery we have always tried to do what is best for our members, and now will be no different. So as from the 1st of April all Direct Debit payments have been frozen until we feel it is OK or we are guided by the government to reopen. For those of you that have paid up front, we will issue a refund for your lost fishing time once we are back open and able to calculate what you have lost out on.
Moving forward, we would like to encourage all members who wish to re-join, to continue to do so – When your renewal paperwork comes through, please complete and send back as normal, we will not be asking for any payments at that point – By completing and returning your renewal forms it will just really help us deal with the paperwork and keep the current start dates as they are, this in turn will aid in a smooth reopening of the syndicate later in the year. Once we are back open we can then start up the Direct Debits or ask for the full payment, pro-rata for the number of months left on your membership.
At this time please do not cancel your Direct Debit as it will just make the process of starting up again that much more time consuming, as we will have to set up a new Direct Debit. Rest assured will not be taking any more DD payments until further notice and will in no way reflect on your credit rating.

If you have any questions regarding the above, then please contact me via email at chris@linear-fisheries.co.uk but rest assured that from 1st April Syndicate members will not be paying for membership while syndicate lakes remained closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you in advance for your patience and help in dealing with this difficult situation.

Stay safe and we’ll be in touch later in the year.

Yours Sincerely
Chris Blunt

**Linear Fisheries COVID-19 – Update**

Following our main statement earlier in the week - We just wanted to give everyone an update with where we are with things:

As it stands the fishery is open, however we are reviewing this daily, after the evening address from Boris and are ready to close the site if required.

We have implemented extra precautions to areas of the site and we are now insisting that anyone who enters the onsite tackle shop, MUST use the anti-bacterial hand sanitizers provided, situated as you enter the shop. We are also requesting, that where possible we try to take card payments only, this is to limit contact with banknotes, we are not insisting this at the moment but let's try and go contactless where possible.

We have ensured that we have available staff to cover all shifts and first aid requirements, particularly as we now know that all schools will be shut from the end of play on Friday. Bailiff's will be on site as usual but will be taking precautions, so please don't be alarmed if they are seen wearing face-masks and gloves - this is only as a precaution.

At this point we unfortunately have to announce that we are going to cancel this year’s annual Fishery Open Day, planned for May and the 2020 British Junior Championships (BYCAC). But they will return in 2021! (everyone who has paid to enter this year’s BYCAC, you will be issued a FULL refund in due course).

We would also like to apologize to the MANY, MANY anglers who have contacted us over the last 24-hours, hoping to move their cancelled French and European fishing holidays onto our waters - We are only able to take so many bookings each month and we already have enough for this year, we just can't take any more. We're really sorry that we can't help more and we will reply to all of you individually, if we haven’t already.

So as it stands we are hopeful to keep the fishery open into next week but we are prepared to take action and close if required. If we do close, we will try to give everyone as much notice as possible, on both the day tickets and syndicates. We’ll post further updates as thing change.

If you require any further info on are at all unsure of the correct procedure, what the symptoms are or just require general advice on COVID-19 then please have a look at this very good link from the NHS https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

**Linear Fisheries COVID-19 – Statement**

The worldwide spread of COVID-19 virus is currently affecting all aspects of our life and is without doubt a major concern to all of us. As you would expect, the team at Linear are closely monitoring the ongoing and developing situation and how it could affect our staff, customers and our ability to safely remain open to the public. As it stands we are following what the government is recommending but are fully aware that closures to non-essential retail and commerce may need to follow soon. Due to the very unusual situation we all find ourselves in, we will only be issuing tickets for a maximum duration of 48-hours at a time until a government decision has been made or we feel we need to temporarily close the complex.

It should be noted that at this point, that no member of the fishery team or their families have been affected or had to ‘self-isolate’ and hopefully it will remain that way.

One point we feel must be addressed, is ‘self-isolation’ at the fishery or fishing lakes in general. Over the past week there have been a number of posts on social media, most in jest, stating that if you have to ‘self-isolate’, then fishing by a lake would be perfect. Please let us make our stance very clear – if you have been instructed to isolate yourself, this must be done at home – by travelling to fish you may be spreading the virus and putting other anglers and members of our team at risk. If this is suspected, you’ll be asked to leave and once the new law has been passed by parliament this week, we may be obliged to inform the authorities. Please stay at home if you suspect you may have come into contact with the virus and speak to your local health care advisers.

If you are at all unsure of the correct procedure, what the symptoms are or just require general advice on COVID-19 then please have a look at this very good link from the NHS https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
There are also travel guidelines in place with regards to safe practice after returning from specified countries or areas of the world – please use the following link for up to date details of country status and whether ‘self-isolation’ is required after travel. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices

We are also having discussions about some of our upcoming events, including our annual Open Day, due to be held in early May along with the British Young Carp Anglers Championships (BYCAC). A sensible decision will be made on whether we will still hold these events this year, this will be based on Health & Safety grounds or the potential for not having the staff to safely run and manage these events – A decision will be made in the coming weeks.

I’m sure some of you out there already feel that they have been starved of fishing this winter, after what must have been one of the wettest winters ever! And now we have the potential for even more disruption – Well don’t lose faith. If we do have to temporarily close or you can’t make it out fishing, just remember that your health and that of your family is more important than fishing - the lakes aren’t going anywhere and the fish will be very hungry on your return……………. In the mean-time the fishery remains open and we will post further updates when required.

**Flooding/High Water Levels Update**

Just a quick update on the high water levels we still have around the site.

Unfortunately Oxlease, Hunts and the Guy Lakes Syndicate are still closed. Hunts and Oxlease will probably be at least another two weeks.
We are hoping to have some of Guys open for around the 14th/15th of this month, but this date isn't confirmed yet.

On the other day ticket waters - All swims are open on Manor and St. Johns. Still a few closed on Hardwick/Smiths, but they should be OK for the weekend.
On Brasenose, there are still a few swims shut, but we are hopeful that these will open by the end of next week.

Fingers crossed for no more rain and our apologies for the muddy areas around the site.
